The West Michigan Global Initiative is planning to host a visit by a Dutch delegation of business, cultural and government leaders in West Michigan in the fall of 2014.

The visit will be a follow-up to the state’s first formal investment mission, led by Lt. Gov. Brian Calley, to the country in April.

Members of the West Michigan Global Initiative are wrapping up a seven-day trip to the Netherlands on Friday, as part of the organization’s focus on strengthening business ties between the country and West Michigan.

Lt. Gov. Brian Calley will lead a week-long trade mission to the Netherlands on Saturday, the governor’s office announced Monday.
Calley will travel with local and state officials, including House Speaker Jase Bolger, R-Marshall, and Agriculture and Rural Development Director Jamie Clover Adams. The delegation returns April 19.

Lt. Gov. Brian Calley will lead a delegation of state and local officials, business leaders and economic developers on a six-day investment mission to the Netherlands, leaving April 13 and returning April 19.

Michigan Lt. Gov. Brian Calley says he's leading a delegation of state and local officials, business people and economic development experts on a six-day investment trip to the Netherlands.

The Netherlands has the fifth-largest economy in the eurozone, even though its 2012 tax revenues dropped 9 percent and its GDP contracted. 

Its estimated GDP is $770.2 billion, No. 24 in the world, according to the CIA World Factbook.

In 2011, the U.S. imported $33 billion in goods and services from the Netherlands and exported $47.5 billion. Major industries include construction, fishing and microelectronics. It is also part of the Benelux economic union with Belgium and Luxembourg. Read more
